Shopfront Design SPD
We consulted on the draft Shopfront Design supplementary planning document (SPD).
The SPD has been produced to provide further design guidance on shopfronts within Harlow, both historic and modern frontages.
It is for both newly built and existing shopfronts located in Harlow town centre, as well as neighbourhood centres and hatches. This includes shops, as well as other uses, such as cafes, restaurants, banks, travel agents, bookmakers and launderettes.
The aim of the SPD is to set out principles to be followed when designing or altering shopfronts, ensuring they contribute to the public realm and character of the area.
The SPD, once adopted, will inform relevant pre-application discussions and will be a material consideration in the determination of planning applications.
We took all the responses we received into consideration and made minor amendments to the draft SPD around the style of shutters or security glass that are to be used as part of designing shopfronts.
At Cabinet on 10 December, the council adopted the SPD and this has now been published on our website.
